Exhibition Design | Collections Interpretation | Contemporary Craft
This exhibition explored the work of master luthier Steve Klein through a collections-based lens, presenting his guitars as objects of design, innovation, and cultural significance. Known for redefining guitar ergonomics and form, Klein’s instruments were displayed to support close viewing and material study, while select performance moments activated the objects through sound. The exhibition design balanced conservation-minded display with opportunities for use, reinforcing the relationship between object, maker, and musician. Informed by research and direct engagement with Klein’s workshop practice, the exhibition framed lutherie as a contemporary design discipline rooted in experimentation, precision, and embodied knowledge.
