Visitor Experience Design | Environmental Interpretation | Community Engagement
Mass Audubon invited TRACE Design Group to reimagine the Wellfleet Bay Visitor Center as an experience that fosters emotional connection and long-term environmental stewardship. Through research, workshops, and community forums, a shared goal emerged: create an environment where visitors fall in love with nature—and are moved to protect it. The redesigned space integrates stories, science, live animals, birdwatching, and interactive media, alongside crowd-sourced photography and original content. Contemporary artwork by Dutch artist Frans Huisman, printed on layered scrims, visually merges land and sea. The result is a poetic, immersive visitor experience that connects place, ecology, and responsibility.
