Climate, Weather, and the Language of Experience
The first installation of a phased master plan, The Arctic Next Door transforms climate and extreme weather into lived experience. Visitors step into a hurricane, climb simulated Mount Washington granite, guide wind toward turning turbines, breathe the scent of alpine herbariums, and trace distant landscapes through scopes and motion. Learning unfolds through movement, sensation, and play. The exhibition is organized as a constellation of flexible “rooms,” allowing themes to evolve while the underlying design remains constant—an adaptive environment where curiosity, science, and changing climate stories meet.
